It seems Colorado has a new strain of thorns that are irresistably drawn to bicycle tires.

The last 3 times in a row I have gone out riding I have picked up thorns and gotten flats. I can't believe it.

I got a major flat today inspite of slime in my kevlar-lined back tire, thanks to a huge mesquite thorn. We have alot of those goat heads, too, here in West Texas/Southern New Mexico. I have had to re-tube my rear tire twice this week.

In the days before I owned a motor vehicle, I rode a bike to work, and just the street was a hazard to my tires. In variable at least once every two weeks I had to put a new innertube on the back or front tire. I wised up and got self sealing innertubes which worked for the city streets.

screw comfort, get the solid rubber tires, thats what I do.

What about Kevlar?

If it will stop an Iraqi bullet... it will stop any thorn...

Strange... I haven't had to replace a tube in almost 2 years, and I ride a bike twice daily.

Already tried that, too expensive to purchase because they have to be custom made for my bike size. But if you can get em cheep, go for it.

Rigfht now I have unprotected toires (no slime or liners). I'm probably being irrational, but I try everything I can to keep my bike as light as possible, especially with the rotational mass, and damn it, that stuff has significant weight!

What I keep doing is forgetting that I am on a road bike, and that I CAN'T ride the bike through gravel/weeds etc, even if only for a few feet.
