^^ Thanks for the shared experience. So much for preventative healthcare. :( Just in the past week school demands have increased and my daughter's acute anxiety is manifesting more. Soon the healthcare providers will be able to "see" it. Will the tip of the iceberg be sufficient? (Despite ...

Ideally you could find a part-time job that fits your skills and energy profile (minimize or eliminate freak outs). Definitely use your resources, as you are doing, and continue to find more as needed. As I started adulting, life was really hard for me and I was suicidal also. I had a cousin (who al...

It seems Autism is an umbrella for so much. I would bet that I could qualify as mildly to severely ADHD, OCD, CAPD (auditory), RSD (rejection), etc. if we looked at all of them. If I had my way (and money) I would do so, for fun. As you may know or have experienced, IQ "drops" with poor co...

^^ Thank you. The hurdle is internal in part: when and how to take the next step. There are two universities I could check; thanks for the tip. My daughter (as did I and my mother and grandmother) presents as the well-behaved, outstanding student described in the NASEN link I included previously. Sh...

^^ You pulled yourself up by your bootstraps!! !

I'm glad life is improving for you! I'm approaching 50 and it's still difficult at times (two young children, work, ASD), but it is so much better than my 20s/30s. Phew.

Why do you need support ? Does she have friends? Not get involved in conflicts? Is she learning? Asking for help? Does she talk? Can’t you go speak to a gp? Just cause you have it doesn’t mean she does? My dad has brown eyes and I have blue.. you have it and are fine so ... is she failing school an...

^^ Similar (ideation in my case). In the 90s I was in so much pain (anxiety?) and simply wanted relief. At 6 I hoped to meet elves, at 10 I hoped aliens would take me away. By 20 I was self-harming (unofficial reports say 75% to 90% of "high functioning" women do). When my favorite cousin ...

I find this interesting: My family is mix and match R us. My mom is ASD w/ avoidance, my dad is NT w/ anxiety * I am ASD w/ anxiety. Woo-hoo the best of both worlds! Hahahahaha. * my sister is NT w/ avoidance I am ASD w/ anxiety, my husband is NT w/ avoidance * our daughter is ASD w/ avoidance * our...

In my case the ASD came first then the trauma from that. Albeit when my ASD-like mom burnt out, I was neglected. Some examples of ASD first: as a teenager I ran into a spider web full in the face and had a meltdown. Rather than my family supporting me I was ridiculed and outcast. As a young adult I ...

Here's a theory: Sensitive people are more susceptible to disorders and the environment is the trigger. I would bet if my ASD-like grandmother had not been abused she wouldn't have had a psychotic break or if my ASD-like mother had not been abused she wouldn't have manifested Narcissism. I had enou...

Personally what used to be "high-functioning" Autism and Asperger's are the same in my manifestation of ASD. I predominantly appear to be what was known as Asperger's, but under significant duress I very much appear as classic Autism. Likewise, I expect someone with "classic" Aut...

My mom did therapeutic hypnosis and highly recommends it. I am too afraid to do it. I am not concerned about losing control so much as I am concerned about feeling too much (which would we dysregulation, so control related, so phooey). However, I do EMDR which is hypnosis "lite". Why does ...

Two weeks ago I was all about a sale, the week before that all about genealogy, the week before that all about maximizing a vacation, the week before that... I definitely move between highly focused interests. I'm uncomfortable when I am "between" focused subjects. I don't idle well. So fo...
