Last night we watched: M3GAN [2022] <=> "She's more than a toy. She's family." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRb4U99OU80 AI in a robotic friend for children. Previously I would've thought they were unrealistically optimistic about what AIs can do but ChatGPT makes me not so sure. I still...

Welcome to WP! I think you can find some nice chats here. And quite a few folk here will report that getting a diagnosis explained so much for them. In my case, I was diagnosed when I was 64 (others here have been diagnosed later!) and was very happy to finally get so much self-understanding. I'll a...

Now you have to see if Bucky will support a time cat sharing arrangement...acceptable to Bucky's official home.

Ideally Bucky mooches lunches from you but returns to official home for the night.

How soon are you expecting to expire? I think the original "150 years off" is likely an order of magnitude off. Let's check back in a decade or so. I will concede I don't think it is likely that quantum computers will have gotten into our home by then, though. Don't they require super-cool...

I think the principles of a transistor based computer is a lot simpler to understand than a quantum computer, a typical computer is also very scalable. I wouldn't know. They used those things when I was a kid. Though that 1106 had a custom-built Philco display system which was based on transistors....

Computer technology evolves quickly.

I'm older than the Internet and integrated circuits.

The first computer I was paid to program was a UNIVAC 1106.

Computer technology has been advancing a lot since its birth.

I think it's not going to happen in our lifetimes. The power of computers seemed to have hit a stumbling block over the last 10 years and they seem to be reaching their limit. The power of an individual computer might not be the key factor...they are networked, after all. Plus quantum computing is ...

Last night I finished watching my way through all episodes of the one season Fractured Flickers  [1963–1964]. The show's concept was to take snippets from old movies (mostly silent movies), stick them together, and dub in silly dialog to create absurd little short videos. Usually they did not identi...

One TV: 65 inch 4K. I like to watch videos.

Usually do not need 4K but it is nice in some movies.

I think 4K would be wasted with a small screen. And even on our current screen there have been times the 4K was not as effective unless I put my glasses on.

Yes. I can't think why humans aren't learning from sci-fi e.g. the Terminator films. We need Asimov's 3 Laws of Robotics right now, probably with extra ones. I'm not so sure on this. The AI in I, Robot had the three laws built in. When it noticed we were harming ourselves it concluded the First Law...

In general, vacations made me uncomfortable. They were disruptions.

But when the vacations were "routine" they were OK. (E.g., visit family around Thanksgiving and Christmas or every year go to the same recurring convention.)

I used to work long hours. I was very unhappy much of the time. (I recently learned there was something called "High-functioning Depression" and suspect I might have had it...for most of my working life!) But I persevered and now am comfortably retired. I like being comfortably retired! It...

Welcome to WP! I hope you find it worth frequent visits. I think I can sympathize with your hesitance to accept your self-diagnosis, even though it seems to make sense. That is where I was in 2019! Before 2019 I knew virtually nothing about Autism and, in my ignorance, would've dismissed any suggest...
