Very true I think.

I have refrained from answering because it is a never ending question to answer with so many ways and variables to reply to that it would keep getting longer and longer and longer as it ever changes from one emotional response to another and I will never be able to finish what I write. That summari...

I often don't notice my own hunger until I start eating, or smell some food I like. A lot of it is preoccupation and hyperfocussing on whatever I'm doing, but even when I'm unoccupied I rarely feel much conscious hunger. As I don't start feeling faint or otherwise begin to wilt or weaken even after ...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Is it so much to wish for another mother?

It seems a tad excessive and irrational to want to swap out your mother just for one silly thing that she did, especially one that doesn't affect you materially. But if that's what you wish, that's what you wish, and nobody has a right to tell you you can't wish it. She's reaping what she sowed, by ...

Thanks Toughdiamond. I'm not sure I can tell I have a stronger response when it really is who I think it is. I'll have to look out for that in the future. I have problems with movie plots but I don't associate it with face blindness as I have the same problem with books. I also forget names, hence ...

I'm certainly not very confident of being able to recognise the faces of people I've not seen very often, and I can mistake them for anybody who looks even slightly like them. I'm used to it so I don't jump to any conclusions when I think I recognise somebody. But when I see the actual person I'm lo...

I don't take these developmental delay criteria very seriously. According to some "experts" I should have been a complete duffer when I first went to school, but I was top of the class for the first 3 years, way more fluent with reading than the other kids, and I think I'd have passed the ...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: What happens to you if you can’t vent?

Interesting question. Plenty of people will tell you that it's unhealthy not to vent and that it's like a boiler without an escape valve, building up pressure until it bursts and blows up the entire house, but I've not been able to find any empirical research that supports such theories. Not that I ...

I haven't seen much of TNG, I was brought up on the original series, so I know more about Spock. From what little I've seen of Data, he tends to be portrayed as of lower status than Spock. If so then that's a shame. I used to identify with Spock quite strongly, but when I discovered emotions I start...

I've learned a lot here, and I've found it useful to crystallise out my thoughts about ASD by making posts about it. It's the only place I have where I don't have to feel apprehensive about being construed as using ASD as a lame excuse for my behaviour. Not that I think my behaviour is bad, just tha...

Having a brain scan test seems like a step forward though, doesn't it? If it helps avoid the subjectivity of the current diagnostic tests? I think so. The position of the line they draw between ASD and not ASD will still be a debatable matter (perhaps more so than with current tests that take a dir...

My guess is that he's using the terms "plantation" and "slave" to denote workplace and employee respectively. If so it's one of the wittiest things I've seen for some time.

We're autistic: ignoring the main point in favour of blowing up an irrelevant detail into a huge acrimonious debate is kind of what we do.... Admittedly we often find it irresistible to argue the toss, and don't always know when to back off, but I doubt that we have a particular liking for pe...

a)You seemed to be annoyed with me. b)I wasn't upset about the amount of followers. It's just that her situation re handling her notifications due to thousands of followers wasn't one I could identify with. c) 'High profile' is probably a better choice of words than 'elitist'. More than a few have ...

I understand that using the term “ brain damage” may seem harsh however using “difference” is disingenuous to those who are severely impaired.

Looks like there's no term for it that will meet with everybody's approval then.

I can understand that somebody with a lot of followers could rightly be called an elite. That's how a lot of the world looks at it. Many of them even admire it. I don't admire it much, but I don't try to ignore the fact that some folks appear more popular than I am. I see nothing odd about firemonke...
