I don't see any ads when I watch YT videos. That's because I watch them on this website: It seems to have all the YT videos without the annoyance of the user having to be on YT itself at all. You can do searches and browse around there just like you can on YT. AFAIK, t...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Preference of the terms "Autistic" or "Person with Autism"?

^ Well yes, in the questionnaire the health professionals' only obvious "crime" was to express a personal preference when asked to do so, and my disdain for their attitude comes from noticing that disconnect between their wishes and ours, which merely smacks of an elitist mindset. It's muc...

I think a lot of the concern about "gifted" kids getting ignored and wasting their potential is caused by our educational system which tends to assume that one size fits all. The problem isn't just that the occasional smartie gets overlooked, it's that the system only works well for the pe...

Is modern feminism a type of female supremacy? No I think that's taking it too far. I think it's only true in as far as many individual people won't stop pushing for more power when they've got a fair share of it. They may start from a downtrodden position where the end justifies the means, but the...

I'm starting to believe everything is propaganda. The news, movies, internet memes, etc. They're all designed to either lie or slant the truth to manipulate the masses into feeling a certain way, and it's been going on that way since the very beginning. That's why humans are the most untrustworthy ...

Good post (the long one), Mountain Goat . So could my model have been the "Royal Scot" like I seem to remember it was? It was very like the one in the photo except that it was green and the wheels weren't so detailed, though authenticity wouldn't have been terribly important to the makers....

I think sometimes they're sincere warnings, other times scaremongering. One test would be to ignore the advice and see what happens. But that could be risky if what was supposed to happen was very bad. It's a bit like that card game where you can call their bluff if you don't believe them, at your o...

Yes I think I have a strong fear of rejection and abandonment, and that I cope with it by not asking for company unless I'm highly confident that it's safe to do so. I'm much more reactive than proactive, e.g. if somebody sticks their neck out first and makes a warm overture towards me, then if I li...

I don't even like the term "gifted people". I think we all have a gift. Sure, some will not agree with me but I have made up my mind! Also, why can't we say that the guy drivig the Fedex truck (or whatever it is called) is gifted? People just call themselves gifted in order to brag! Or ar...

I fluff my words if I try to talk or read aloud at the same speed as others seem able to, but it could be down to a more generalised slowness in brain processing. I'm fine if I do it a bit slower than average. I can do "tongue twisters" quite well but only if I've practised them. I had qui...

I don't know either. It's always seemed strange to me that in ancient times people didn't seem to question authority however violent it was. Maybe it's safer to call it out these days, depending on where you live.

Can't say I like being a passenger in the ordinary public transport trains they have in the UK these days. The whole experience is too monotonous and cramped, at least on the routes I've used - chiefly between Leicester and London St. Pancras. But I used to love them when I was a kid. I can still re...

Yes if you can find a good healthcare professional you can afford, try that if your symptoms don't go away. Certainly depression is thought to be more common in Aspies, but it doesn't happen to us all. If it were me, I'd try self-help first, but that's just me. I'd want to ask myself if anything bad...

1. Is it bad to look for it? Should we just stumble on it? Well, I suppose if something you'd like to have isn't there, it's OK to look for it. 2. How do you define obsessive perseverance? In psychology obsession seems to be something that is mostly negative. It seems to have another meaning outsid...

1. How did you find your area of expertise? Was this something that was very obvious? I think I just stumbled on it. I wasn't looking for it. I wanted a result, and I suppose some of my ASD traits made it hard for me to rest till I got it. 2 how did ASD help make you really good at your area of exp...
