I know I'm the exception and not the rule, but I have always enjoyed talking to new people / strangers. Maybe it's because it's low stakes. If I say something stupid or break the rules, I don't have to see that person again and they have no obligation to talk to me again if they don't want to. I thi...

I hate pantyhose, tights, and women's activewear. The texture is terrible and it clings too tightly to my body. Sometimes it feels like nothing else is available in my size. It seems like a distinct fashion movement, that or a conspiracy. Stores don't have to make clothes that actually fit different...

There are many conditions that result in executive dysfunction besides autism, like ADHD which I have. There are actually 8 executive functions. 1. Self-Control The ability to stop and think before acting 2. Emotional Control The ability to manage feelings to achieve goals and complete tasks 3. Tas...

I think for a lot of people that is true. Not for me though  I've been told I don't know when to be quiet.

I don't know if they are on WP, but I met a couple of black adults with autism while attending a (now virtual) support group a couple of years ago. DM me if you want me to put you into contact with the organizer.

I will say that there are a few types of shutdowns and not a lot of research has been put into them, but what you get seems more towards a sleep issue? Narcalepsy? (Is that the right word?) I saw a sleep expert. They didn't think I had narcolepsy. I don't remember on what basis though. It was a lon...

Shutdowns almost feel like fainting but different. Hard to describe. Not a pleasant feeling. Panic sets in as well if shutting down in an inappropiate place. https://youtu.be/1CNY6BbtgS8 Why that video? It had no information about shutdowns in it, just one very brief mention of meltdowns. I can rel...

Since being formally diagnosed with level 1 ASD about a month or so ago, I have been thinking back a lot. One of these thoughts was about how when I was stressed as a kid I would just involuntarily sleep sometimes. It was a big problem with studying and test-taking in particular. I fell asleep in th...

• Child car safety seats cause autism. wait- WHAT? • Exposure to other children with autism causes autism. Pretty sure my mom believed this. She also believed I was the way I was because of yeast imbalances in my body. -or because I had eatern refined sugar -or because I had eaten red meat -or beca...

While we're on this topic, I want to vent about somthing: It really bugs me that the autism color scheme is the same as the LGBQT scheme. If I wear my spectrum leggings to the gym, people are more likely to think I'm into LGBQT (which I'm not). My niece knows my diagnosis yet thought my leggings re...

They are 10-15 years younger So does this mean that you have trouble making friends with other people in their 30s & 40s? Personally, I find going out with 20-somethings exhausting. Sometimes it feels like they are hell-bent on doing damage to themselves (loud music, drinking until sick, eating...
