But you've opened up, quite a bit, to all of us here on Wrong Planet. Of course, what you have with us here on Wrong Planet is a one-dimensional kind of emotional intimacy, in a safely anonymous context, separate from the other ingredients of a friendship. Yes, I'm quite private in real life, I don...

Yes! Come on tanks!

I know Britain has been training Ukrainian soldiers so hopefully everyone else has and they will be able to use the tanks. Or, the tanks will come with some crew who knows how to use them.

Hopefully this will turn the tide against Russia!

I think the problem these days with finding friends is that no one depends on anyone for anything. We can all get whatever we want from the internet. We're all going along on our own tracks, independent of anyone else. So friendship has disappeared. In the past, everyone's life depended on everyone ...

And I know this happens to my men friends too, they get women pestering them or sometimes men. I know these are often bots but I've had men who I thought were online friends suddenly turning on me and 'sliding into my DMs' (terrible expression) to chat me up when I thought we were friends. That's wh...

Thanks for this thread, Mona. I think this was why Meetup was set up originally: to make groups of people with similar interests in a more formal way. But I haven't really met any friends through Meetup, I've sure met some aggressive people though. And Meetup charges so much, it puts people off. Obv...

Oh FFS men will you please fvck off! I try my best to stop all DMs but still I get creepy men sending them. They always start out so nice and friendly but I know dam well that it will soon turn to creepy questions and comments. Of course I don't reply and I block them but I want to rant about it as ...

At some point, if enough people show interest, maybe I should start a separate thread on formal friendship groups and what they could look like. That's a good idea, but how would it help us in real life? I decided to create the above-mentioned new thread and answer your question there , to avoid ta...

Yes, Mr K, it does. Friendship is very hard to find these days...

Usually because the other person breaks it off? In what fraction of cases, if any, have friendships ended with you being the one to break if off? If it's almost always the other person who breaks if off, then perhaps there might be things you could do to make this less likely to happen. This might ...

Question: In what kinds of contexts have you been meeting these friends? Online, in-person, or both? If in-person, in what kinds of context? (e.g. job, school, bars, or just living in the same neighborhood?) If online, in what kinds of online contexts? (e.g. just happening to run into each other's ...

Something has gone wrong with contemporary Western culture. It needs to be fixed, somehow. Hopefully it can be fixed without requiring us to go back to the rigid patriarchal social roles and hierarchies that Western society has collectively been rebelling against ever since the 1960's or so. It mig...

So many of you in this forum seem like the nicest people. I don’t see how anyone can not love to have you as friends. I think that too. I think people seem nice on this forum. I think I'm a nice person. But the sheer number of times I've been dismissed, dumped, snapped at, manipulated...It makes me...

I don't really want advice, I just want to vent. My mother is 85, she lives in a retirement flat in a special retirement building. She chose to move there just before the pandemic so we didn't visit her for at least a year. She used to live 5 minutes walk away but suddenly decided to move to this ne...
