I can understand when I am obviously checking out a girl(which I don't really do anymore) and they notice and we are talking or they are talking with someone else and I am not far away from them, they will indirectly let me know they are not available by saying something like this: "oh yeah I enjoy...

I understand what she did, but I don't understand why it would bring on hysterical laughter. Probably nerves. Most NTs put on a social front and many are careful to avoid slip ups. When it happens (like with this girl) the embarrassment may release a sudden rush of endorphins to cover up the stress...

Hi, I'll play pseudo moderator here and suggest not making this a thread dedicated to stoning Mr Sbluto

His posts aren't my cup of tea but I suspect his emotional state is an open book and perhaps a little sensitivity in pointing out his errors rather than surrounding him like a mob.

I'm not sure an autism class would be less structured. Most children with autism need more structure. But perhaps you're using the word in a different sense than I'm thinking of. I know that my own son, though he does need structure and routine, responds badly to authoritarianism, rules he doesn't ...

Is home-schooling an option? You sound like you have a twice-exceptional kid (gifted and disabled simultaneously) and that can mean you need a pretty specialized kind of education.

It's really a last option Callista :(

Quite honestly, I am really bothered by your conversation with this man. It is not your job at home to discipline the child for behavior at school, and yet he implies it is. If an AS child is acting out at school it is because something is wrong for her at school, and I would suggest he spend some ...

In the US at least, there are special ed classrooms at regular schools for kids in the normal range of intelligence who have other learning disabilities like severe ADHD and dyslexia, for example, and the classes are for kids that are falling behind in a regular class. Schools usually offer 2 versi...

I don't know how old your daughter is or where you live but it doesn't really matter. . Oops sorry. she's just turned 6 and is enrolled in prep school in Australia (which is pre-year 1 primary). She was a late diagnosis of HFA around 5 because quite honestly my wife and I just figured she was just ...

Over the past few weeks we have had ongoing discussions with our primary school (mainstream) over the behavior of our daughter. Since returning from holidays in July she has been throwing furniture, hitting her aide and pushing kids in her pre-school class. Yesterday the headmaster told us he had en...

So if his condition was so horrible, then why wasn't it readily apparent at the donation center? What if he had never been diagnosed? In what way is this basically different from women getting pregnant from the local alcoholic down at the bar, having children who are more likely to do the same? It'...

Hello, I'm divorced from a man that I now realize has Asperger's as do many of his nephews and likely many other undiagnosed family members. My concern is that I have a 6 year old son that is beginning to suffer from his Dad's behaviors. Just recently his Dad publicly trampled his little baseball j...

Hi Everyone
Enjoying your posts...

To Nostromo hang in there! no need to benchmark your son against other kids (NT or autistic) , Our children our unique. just accept the differences and as long as your son is happy just keep working with him and enjoy the time.
