What do you mean? Apart from the psychiatrist being trained for autism (mine is). I tried to get an appointment today. The answering machine said the office is closed during August and to call again on Monday. Don’t come to France in August if you can avoid it  I'm just saying that not all he...

@Michael Ardan , If there is any doubt, or concern, about a diagnosis, it doesn't hurt to discuss with your mental health professional. They can more adequately answer questions about the diagnostic process and your diagnosis than anyone on the internet can. That may often be correct, though it dep...

It's very difficult to diagnose ASD unless the client is an extreme case. Screening tests are just screening tests, not even supposed to be all that robust - I don't know how anybody can answer that Baron-Cohen AQ test accurately, with its forced-response, highly reductionist questions, though if yo...

My place is cleaner and tidier than it has been in months, and I like the look. When I've been really depressed, even taking down a cloud of cobwebs hasn't cheered me up. I had a friend who would gauge her depression by how many dishes she had in her sink on average. Anyway, I noticed that once I w...

My wife and I are both on the spectrum. We both have a million habits that irritate NTs. She is so relieved that I'm not upset by her pacing or talking to herself, and that I understand her need for solitude. The less we worry about what NTs would think normal the happier we are. That's consistent ...

I'm quite keen on egalitarianism, so if somebody isn't friendly enough to bother listening to me a bit, I'll very likely ignore them too. And if they're not interested in the things that interest me, they're unlikely to make good friends anyway, so I see little point in trying to get them to like me...

Unlike a lot of people I don't assume that others know everything about the topic I'm talking about, so I feel the need to be detailed and give clarifying information when it may be needed. I think that could be the origin of the whole thing. At school I noticed that after a few years the teachers ...

I'm familiar with similar oddities. The one who wouldn't stop explaining about the charge for missing an appointment without giving 48-hour notice - I suspect she was just following instructions "obtain client's understanding and agreement about the rule on cancellation and notice," and sh...

^ Yes, I've long seen those aggressive salesmen as being much the same as stalkers. What I don't understand is why they haven't all gone out of business. Either it works well enough to keep them afloat, or they've managed to convince their bosses that it works. Whichever is the truth, it suggests a ...

does this covid thing blow the standard flu bug out of the water? or will i also have to innoculate against the flu also? i feel like a blinkin' pin cushion! Last year they were recommending to get the flu vaccine, so that if you get sick, you won't have to worry about whether it's Covid, or just t...

[.........continued] For what it's worth: When a seat belt makes me uncomfortable I do consider not wearing it. I don't often wear one if I'm riding in the back of a car. Much more likely I will in the front, but depending on the conditions and my needs, I might unbuckle it for a short time, or make...

[...] What gets me is the constant insistence that 50% is "very good protection." From a health professional's perspective maybe it is. From the individual's perspective, a 50% cut in the risk isn't all that great. Much better than nothing, but leaving a lot to be desired. It's one reason...

It's more like people will be strongly encouraged to take a booster shot, since the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) believe that there is reduced immunity to both the Pfizer and Moderna shots after about 8 months of a person being fully vaccinated. Yes, the effectiveness does seem to fall, apart ...

Here in the US, most people, most likely, will be forced to take a booster shot. I believe this will also be true in most, or all, of the world. I won't need to be forced. But it would make sense from a public health point of view if force was applied. I suspect if that happens, it won't be governm...

I agree. As long as special interests aren't interfering with essential functioning, they're a good thing.
