I also wonder what I was truly like as a kid. It's very difficult to see into the past and my memory is sketchy. I was also forced with violence and threats of violence into behaving in inauthentic ways. And that probably contributed to me passing as normal. I struggle with slowing myself down these...

Musk seems to be going a bit screwy on politics at the moment. Considering voting for that reptile from Florida.

I had a pretty good response taking melatonin for sleep several years ago. Tried taking a larger amount once and that was nasty. Slept soundly but spent the whole next day struggling to stay awake. Very unpleasant!

Mothers! They can pose problems!

Musk has spoken about how what he does hurts him. About how unhealthy and not normal it is to be so driven. But he feels he has to do it. And he certainly has changed the whole landscape of the electric car. He has also changed rocketry forever and is about to do it again in a big way. I'm an ardent...

The idiots at the company that took over my credit card debt have failed to manage to take their monthly slice of flesh off my account. This is the second time in the past year. It's an automatic payment so I don't understand why they keep doing this. It means I will have to phone the swine and then...

^we are indeed very much predictive engines. I believe our meaning making (and thus spiritual and religious ideas) is an evolutionary outgrowth of our predictive abilities.

I have seen kids be referred to drumming classes by an OT. I think there is something here involving left, right coordination. Drumming (Often with a djembe drum) involves having left and right hands synchronized with each other which relates to the two brain hemispheres. It's something I've had tro...

^techstepgenr8tion you are obviously way ahead of me on philosophy. I find it fascinating but it also makes my head spin! I have trouble keeping track of all of the terminology. I will look into some of the authors you mention though. Thanks. For reasons of my own healing, my interest in religion or...

Being autistic can cause one to be fearful of being in crowds as having difficulty with socialising (an autistic trait) makes it uncomfortable and exhausting being around people. I would suggest reading as many threads on this forum as you can and see whether what other people say resonates with you...

^ what edna3362 said is good advise. I would say awareness is always first. Learning to have part of myself in observer mind. That is, watching what's happening without judging it as good or bad. Difficult emotions are totally allowed. Suppressing them to keep parents happy is common but unhealthy l...

I have been avoiding this thread. Reading but not posting. But here goes... I have had multiple meltdowns and some with quite negative outcomes. That said, as I will mention below, there have been some positives. It is usually a combination of exhaustion and frustration. Sometimes there may be a sen...

I'm still trying to work this out. I can't read poetry as I can't sort all the metaphors out in real enough time to make any sense of it. Plays are also difficult. I'm constantly distracted by the thespian habit of over-emphasising everything to make it carry on a stage. With reading, I will reread ...

^techstepgenr8tion- all very good points. Have you read William James' Varieties of Religious Experience? I read sections before but am just now reading the whole thing. His rationale for focussing on what he calls "personal religion", as opposed to " institutional religion" in t...

I voted other. My concept of reality is heavily influenced by Buddhism but I've found I needed to move on and abandon what I call magical thinking. I tend to focus on the self these days (probably because I'm autistic!). I see mostly through the lens of regarding us as complex animals, living in a m...

A therapist will be able to be non-judgemental about whatever has happened to you as well as what you think and feel. I would share what you've written with them and start there.
Best of luck.

For me mania or hypermania doesn't seem to fit. I'm not sure hyperfocus does either. It's the same hyperfocus I can get when I'm doing art. Perhaps more of a compulsion to accomplish what I set for myself to do. Sometimes it results in me doing things too fast and therefore not doing them well. I t...
