I disclose all the time to everyone. The responses I get are extremely varied. The reason I disclose to everyone is that it is very important for me to be able to get whatever accommodations I need, even if it's something like a personal space bubble accommodation or a conversational accommodation o... |

Rather like it’s “accepted” that people with measles get rashes. Ah, I understand what you mean! Thank you! |

Monotropism Monotropism is a theory of autism developed by autistic people, initially by Dinah Murray and Wenn Lawson. Monotropic minds tend to have their attention pulled more strongly towards a smaller number of interests at any given time, leaving fewer resources for other processes. I just found... |

Even NTs hyperfocus—but autistic people do it more consistently and more intensely. Yes. |

Like Kraftie said, we have the ability to hyperfocus but it's not the ONLY thing we do. In fact, seeing the "big picture," which would be the polar opposite of monotropism, is incredibly for anyone to be able to do whether they are Autistic or NT or anything else. I am wondering whom they ... |

$255/50 minutes, I would have fired her too. That's crazy!! My insurance covered $225 / session, up to $1500 year. It was the principle of the thing. She didn't deserve to be making that much whether it came from my pocket or from my insurance! I agree. It doesn't matter if the insurance is paying ... |

Let's not forget that in the OP he said he sometimes felt like an alien. I don't equate that to being an alien...just feeling like one. And he was talking about how he felt, not how he should be addressed. I stand by my two previous responses: There are a lot of candidate words for how you were per... |

That second therapist OMG. While she is right that you should have had support as a child to not know such things were rare when you were a child (SMH). Then to recommend ABA to learn how to do small talk, grrrrrrrh. I have to give her credit for recognizing she was unqualified and cutting you loos... |

CPTSD is a tricky one. I think the hardest part of it is its continuous nature. I would be interested in how your therapist is helping you. The thing that helps me the most is just sharing my experiences. I have taught myself that whatever I feel, whether it's painful, or exciting, or joyful, or sc... |

skibum I am so sorry you are having to go through this. Of course I don't understand it all, but I have read it all. I am wondering what your living conditions are like, with all that to deal with. Maybe you could say, in very general terms of course. What interests me most is this: are you somehow... |

I wrote a book and I am also a content creator Wrote a book? Wow! Was it published? I haven't published it. I wanted to. I even had Dr. Tony Attwood review the manuscript for me. He and I are friends. He loved it and told me to use his words as a review and he sent me the information to his publish... |

Oh my goodness, what an experience. Your first therapist was amazing. What a shame that he couldn't live forever. The other one sounds like complete nightmare. Even if she had some good ideas that might have been somewhat helpful, the incompetence is unimaginable. I am so sorry you had to go through... |

If it is very rare that someone sees beyond your mask, and it took someone "who is trained in working with families and parenting" (who likely has some training regarding Autism), then your mask is doing awfully good. Be proud of that. You want to be very careful of having too good of a m... |

Thanks Skibum, Really appreciated your post thank you.I guess it made me feel uncovered, and yes, it’s clear she knew the kind of signals from her professional expertise. I think to answer your last question, there’s still that little boy’s voice inside me somewhere which can’t understand why he’s ... |
