Replayed Doom 2016. Great game. Started Doom Eternal. Everything they changed in this one seems to make the game worse... 2016 had tight encounters where you had to stay aware of your surroundings and use your tools, but otherwise you were free to do it however you wished. Eternal is messy. You get...

I got an urge to play something quick and simple so I blasted through Lost Planet. The gameplay design is definitely half-baked but there's enough of an interesting game here to sustain the six hours of total playtime. I'll probably play the sequels because I didn't ever do so before. Talking of med...

The first time that I played Dark Souls I didn't cheese anything and I didn't read guides. Cheesing Dark Souls is one thing, but if you look up how to cheese Dark Souls on your first playthrough then that's unforgiveable. It's not a very hard game if you know how to play, but that's the point; you d...

Personally I think that buying anything with money that isn't actual game content (ie. an extra campaign, levels, characters in a fighting game etc) is evidence of poor judgement. I'll never understand people who buy cosmetics, not just because I'd personally judge these things to have a fractional ...

I've been playing Trails of Cold Steel 3, which I hated the first time but after playing the previous games I appreciate that it is probably the best in the series. The characters and writing are a lot more tolerable but the story jumps the shark the moment that they start revealing things (which th...

I doubt that the first game itself actually caused hardware failures, it was probably old model PS3s — which were inherently prone to failure due to poor heat management — getting knocked out en masse by a popular game that pushed the hardware. PS4 consoles are well-engineered, they aren't going to ...

I remember a decade or so back thinking how cool mobile games could become. It's a shame the industry realised that a continuously-present device that sends out sound notifications that most people are too stupid to disable is a perfect vector for gambling and social pressuring. Emulation is still r...

I've been replaying the first two Trails of Cold Steel games. I don't dislike them overall, broad strokes of the setting and the plot are interesting, but everything is undermined by an incredibly weak script and a cast of flat and unlikeable characters. Dialogue often feels rote & perfunctory y...

The Sega Megadrive (Genesis) It was the first console I ever played on and has some of my favourite game series (Sonic and Streets of Rage) I remember getting a PS1 and I hated the noise it made. I got used to it after a while Mega Drive was my first console too and while I preferred the PS1, there...

PS1, easily. Every game was fresh and so many great series started or peaked during that era. The PS2 had more all-time classics but it's not so nostalgic for me.

I just finished The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd. That was the only game in the series that I hadn't played yet, at least as far as English releases go, because I figured that it was a fairly disposable side-story rather than an essential part of the overall narrative; that assumption...

As a kid I played through Wild Arms 1 & 3, and they're both pretty great, so I've been meaning to play through the rest of the series some time. I heard Wild Arms 4 was the bad one, and the theme song is good, so I had to play it. This game is wild. It's stupid in such a way as to perfectly appe...

I'm extremely bad but I play FighterZ with Vegito/Cell/Goku Black (my theme is clearly arrogant as*holes). I never played a fighting game properly before this so I'm an absolute scrub and I've never spent time in training mode because my spare time is for learning Japanese. I have about 150 hours, w...

Given they keep referring to the series as "Silent Hills" and are basically just repeating rumours I wouldn't give this much credence. I don't think anyone on earth would trust Konami to run a remake of Silent Hill at this point, anyway. I'm a huge fan of the first two games but those game...
