welcome! I do so much better on a forum like this with printed words. I do not do as well where I have to look and listen because my sensory processing is so bad. Words are the only reliable way for me to connect with others. I can't even message because I process things so slowly. email and forums ...

neurological testing at the time of diagnosis revealed not only 25th percentile visual processing but 35th percentile audio processing. That is very poor!! ! I did not know about my autism when I moved out on my own at age 19. I found I was poorly prepared. I did not know how to balance a check book, to plan meals for a week, to shop for food or anything else. I did not know about basic home care such as pilot lights, fuses or electric boxes, furnace fil...

it is just another day I absolutely hate it when people make a fuss. I will be 70 this year and I hate that somebody who knows me is already threatening to throw a surprise party. She doesn't know or understand me if she actually thinks I would like this. I have told her, but I am very anxious over ...

depends on the person. Just like in real life, I don't find much in common with most people here (except of course the obvious autism) Once in a while interest will spark if I think I might see a person's point of view over something I am interested in too. It would take many comments and posts wher...

I have never been able to do that unless I swallow air first. amazing the things you learn on a forum. I don't find much similarity between tachycard...

yes, it was not until after I knew about autism and thought I am probably autistic that I began to have "aha" moments. I learned that I have very little ability to process anything in motion/ real time, that leads to no being able to follow action movies, most videos, most real life sports...

I helped our daughter get disability when she was 20, I had documentation of her struggles from childhood... letters from teachers, doctor visits, anything I could find to show how she struggled all her life. I kept all the documentation together and only gave the social security workers copies of t...

I couldn't force myself to complete it, too many false results, where neither answer fit my behavior, either answer I would be supposed to choose from felt completely wrong and false. How can a test like that be accurate enough to be reflective of one's true behavior? I am surprised to find myself a...

stick around a while, and you will find yourself drawn to certain members, feeling better understanding with them than with others. I find that I don't identify as much with the younger members, I was born a few decades too early to have much in common with them, but I do find that among the many ol...

This idea presumes that "rise in autism" is not attributable to better understanding, and does not take into account that perhaps better resources for diagnosis and understanding are simply more available in the wealthier areas of the world. Among a load of other ideas that make no sense t...
