The same neurological variant that produces faster, more complex, or more sensitive neurology, may also present with the neurology that produces a higher IQ.
There is a joke in Mensa that if you do not have Aspergers it is because someone else took the test for you. |

When I was single I used to travel. Once I tried fishing by going into a bait shop on a lake in California and telling the guy I would like to go fishing, but I didn't know the first thing about it. He was very helpful and not only because I purchased the equipment and rented a boat. One can go hors... |

don’t ever compare me to you again. We are nothing alike you got that? In a way it is sort of a compliment. Such a statement conveys a wealth of information. One can find hurt, selfishness, and a presumption of dictatorial authority. The phrase "How sharper than a serpent's tooth, a thankless ... |

Autism is a category that was initially used for children who had a brain malformation or had suffered brain injury. These children seldom survived into adulthood. A few years ago Aspergers was reclassified as a type of autism. In a way autism is a sort of miscellaneous category now which does not a... |

Having a neurology that is faster, more complex, or more sensitive can present a person with so much information about his environment that processing it all can take time. In a social setting where everyone else is running on "automatic pilot", it can make one stand out in a noticeable wa... |

Many modern work environments set a pace that results in a sort of debilitation after work. Depleted energy levels have to be restored on your own hours. This can even be done willingly as one may find a sort of exhilaration at work that contributes to stealing vitality from your off hours. ADHD med... |

There is a familial / tribal element to cliques. One might make a case that for people who have broken families (such as in poverty areas) the need for a group is even higher which may account for street gangs. Up until 100 years ago families were very large, stable, and located on one place. Since ... |

Casual fornication is promoted in almost all media as routine, expected, and common. Often what is not discussed is the benefits of abstinence. If a person seeks a mate for a life long marriage and to build a family, bringing ignorance and inexperience to the table might seem a deficit. However, the... |

One thing about things that are difficult or mistakes that are made is that if they are repetitive, there is the opportunity to learn to improve.
I saw an interview with a famous potter once and he said, "If you do anything 20-30,000 times, you are bound to get good at it." |

Acting is when someone writes a script, the director decides how it should be portrayed, and the actor follows his instruction.
Improv is when the actor does it all.
Whether NT or not, the talent to do this varies. |

Having a child refuse to talk with you is heart breaking. Having one who does talk to you and tell you everything he hates about you is even more heartbreaking. Mark Twain is supposed to have said that when he was 17 he couldn't believe how stupid his father was and when he was 21 he couldn't believ... |

Simplistic declarative statements are seldom "true". They are often used to express or create emotional effects. It can be especially confusing if one has the expectation that language is supposed to express, if not truth, than at least accuracy. |

I had two daughters with selective mutism. It was my observation that there was an almost paralytic reaction to anxiety causing situations. Rather than a sensory cause, I thought it was an anxiety caused by uncertainty as to what outcome would be achieved for any given response. |

The opinion of a "professional" (ie diagnosis) is not always helpful. Labels seldom help a situation. It might be more comfortable for your son to think in terms of particular characteristics. For example, if he has anxieties, addressing those concerns might be more helpful. He might even ... |
