For as difficult as it is to actually be a polymath in the 21st century with as much as there is to know we need more polymaths regardless. One could maybe denigrate that as a 'jack of all trades master of none' approach but we seem to be in a place where we're socially and politically performing w...

With Biden pulling ahead in Pennsylvania I think that's just about a wrap. Now for all the legal shenanigans.

My nightmare scenario of 269-269 still on the table... Also I'm taking back all the nice things I've said about pollsters the past 4 years.

So this may be a difference between the US system and others but we don't actually vote for parties we vote for candidates, and some rare birds like myself still "split-ticket."

Restrictions only make sense if they save lives in the long term. Good reasons for restrictions: 1) Keeping medical resources from being overwhelmed. 2) Keeping at risk groups from being infected 3) Believing an imminent medical advance will either decrease number of cases or decrease effect of case...

This is a pretty complex topic. 1) Different people will find different things attractive, so no one thing is necessary. 2) Most people are more attracted to fit looking individuals. Now definition of fit varies, but basically look more like a jogger than a powerlifter. 3) Regardless of your physica...

It's a sad state of affairs. I'm hoping somehow after this election the country can start healing its political wounds. Have a bad feeling that won't happen.

I am concerned that there are cases of people getting infected more than once which means the effectiveness of the first vaccine will be questionable. There may be a cycle of lockdowns (as we are seeing currently throughout Europe) and at some point a country will have to take the brave decision th...

If there is no vaccine people will continue getting sick until enough people have gotten sick that the disease can no longer infect enough people to sustain itself. Just like every plague that has ever affected humanity.

All this delaying the inevitable will look pretty silly then.

Treating people equally does not mean being blind to injustice. Do you want police to treat black people differently than white people or the same? Do you want gay people to be treated differently than straight people or the same? We should aim for a society in which race doesn't matter. The proble...

"Treating everyone" does not work in making equality when this means acting blind to race ignores systematic racism. Being blind to particular experiences of different groups can mean being complicit in looking away from certain problems. Like pretending that race does not exist does not ...

It seems pretty obvious to me that one cannot eradicate racism by treating people differently based on their race. This appears to be the prevailing strategy being advocated by many activists.

Bad feeling 50 years from now it will be the same 'ole, same 'ole.

Antrax's solution to racism/sexism/[insert]-ism: 1) Adopt a culture where people are treated the same based on their actions regardless of other characteristics. 2) Adopt a culture where people understand that their actions determine their outcomes 3) When deviations from this culture are observed e...
