People tell me that I'm too honest, or that I'm very blunt. My mum told me not to piss off the people that serve me when I told her about the pharmacist telling me to come back in a couple days to get the rest of my prescriptions. That I asked if the pills didn't arrive because of the slower delive...

Here's a research paper about the subject, which you may or may not have seen yet: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ygh2.336 They seem to think that there's little hard evidence of any such effects, that a lot of the anxieties around the matter may have been created by social media m...

I think the intensity of a special interest can depend a lot on the luck of the draw - something arrives that happens to be just what you like, more full of the kind of things that pull you into more and more involvement. Also, autistic traits can feel a lot stronger or weaker depending on how your ...

After reading through all the posts in this thread, I came to the realization that most of you do not understand the difference between an invention, an innovation, a discovery, and an idea. INVENTION: An invention is a unique or novel device, method, composition or process .  The invention process...

My childhood self, and probably many small kids, are shocked to learn that youre expected to CONTROL things like farts, burps. Farting can't truly be controlled IMO, only delayed, and there's a limit to the feasible delay time. It's often possible to acquire the necessary skill to mute the sound, b...

I'm not sure what you mean by "us" - Aspies, or everybody? And doctors - shrinks, or general practitioners? I've not noticed any doctors taking any such interest in my mental health. All that happened when I was diagnosed privately for ASD was that the diagnostician gave me a list of place...

My favourite definition of normal is:

"An adjective used by boring people to make themselves feel better."

I thought I'd had an original idea when I dreamed up the notion of using labour hours as the unit of currency, but apparently it had already been done. Don't know why they abandoned it. Because it did not work. I remember a "Sweat-Equity" movement in Chicago a few decades ago.  It was sta...

ToughDiamond, I am touched by your story. I do think it's harder for boys because of the expectations for males. You're absolutely right that being desperate would drive people away. It's not just girls, but also friends, family, jobs. Nobody enjoys being around someone who's trying too hard to be ...

But the number is always shifting: as soon as someone turns 18, a new voter is born, and when someone dies, they (usually) stop voting. I've often wondered whether that's why the public's memory seems to be so short. It might also help explain the adage that "a person is intelligent but people...

Mine are a combination of never being completely certain of anything, and extending the principle of charity towards others until they give me reason not to. I'm quite certain about a number of things in mathematics. That includes that there are mathematical statements that can be neither proven no...

I wouldn't read much into a small child being shy of me if they weren't used to me. The ones I've met have never seemed to care much who they engaged with, though nobody has ever tried to get them to hug me, and I can understand any child not wanting to be pushed into something like that with anybody.

One thing is what my Mother says and I actually agree with her in this is that males and females are different, and part of the issues in the past (E.g. the 1970's when I grew up where they "Tried" to get men and women to be the same) is that it simply did not work. No. What nonsense. Wom...
