Hard to remember names?

For me it's often hard to remember the names of people other than those I have to deal with every day or to care a lot. I can remember faces and the situations I have met them but I forget names of other people quite fast. It's sometimes even embarrassingly once I have to talk about problems ot work that are related to specific people. I just did read that it's a very common problem of people who have an Asperger Syndrome. How many here do share this problem?

I have a sharp memory when it comes to names and faces so I guess I'm an uncommon Aspie

I'm better at remembering peoples names now that I'm an adult, but when I was a child I used to forget names all the time. I still don't even remember some of my teachers names after having them as teachers for an entire year.

A trick I used as a child to remember names was I would repeat them to myself over and over, which was kind of weird and made some kids avoid me. Now I just do that in my head, but it doesn't work as well for some reason. lol

I answered this and it has dissapeared.

Cant answer the pole as I don't know yet if I am on the spectrum or not.

Now I have prosopragnosia and also I can forget names. Prosopragnosia is funny as it varies and I don't know when I have it or not.

faces are a lot easier to remember.

You should trust naturalplastic that you are. It also obviously to me because you are more then me.

Thank you Quite an Extreme. Sometimes I think I am and sometimes I am not sure. Haha! It makes sense if I am and if I am not I will have LOTS of questions to try to make sense of myself.

I'm too focused on how I'm doing in the conversation to remember something as trivial as names.

I take longer than most people to remember a person’s name, I think, but if I interact with someone on a regular basis I usually remember their name eventually. For example I have a GP doctor, a psychiatrist, a dentist, an ENT specialist, and an oncologist, all of whom are Doctor (insert last name), and I have trouble keeping track of which one is which name. I’m paranoid about getting people’s names wrong, so I usually avoid using names unless I really have to.

Usually no problem with names, but don't get me started on faces. I can take a long time to recognize someone and often won't if seeing them outside of where I tend to see them.

Names I remember.

It takes me a very long time to learn new names. I remember faces a lot more easily than I remember names.

Oh, GOD yes. I can never remember anyone's name if I don't see them frequently or related to them.

I majorly had this problem my whole life but I never associated it with autism. I thought it was partly due to my Dyslexia. I get things mixed up a lot like dates, terms, I sometimes spell things mixed up, & I sometimes word things kinda backwards. I also considered that it might be related to Aphasia. My mom was in labor with me for 3 days so there may be some kinda brain damage or something

According to how the brain works that could be even kind of a reason for this.
The brain remembers stuff according to it's relation to other things like special facial features, hair color, size aso. May be that more curiosity about others could help a lot with that. Once you aren't able to recall the look or something special of others it's a lot harder to recall the related names just because once you aren't a visual thinker the names aren't that much related just to the looks but other properties for you. For this it's not that easy to remember the names as long as you can't recall something additionally special that is related to the one immediately as well.
But in opposite to NTs are people with AS often much less interested in other people. This could make it much harder for them to recall names of others because there is much less special stuff related to the name in their memory then.

I'm obviously strange enough that others are pretty good at recognizing me even without knowing my name. Some guys even gave me fantasy names in the past because they didn't knew me but remembered me enough for even talking about me. But that's pretty OK as long as they show respect to me and don't try to mess around with me.
