It's just at the time, quite a few articles came out saying it was homophobic, whatever they mean by that. They say that it's afraid to go there, but go where, exactly, since the movie portrays the character as gay and what more do you want, or so I thought.

Well, so if the character is gay and in a relationship they shouldn't be portrayed as asexual and aromantic like the couple are platonic if the movie includes depictions of heterosexual romance.

Are you describing stuff from comments or from articles or videos criticizing movies? Generally articles and videos will explain their reasoning why the criticism applies.

Well for example, one article said this:

"It strips Mercury of a part of his identity that was as vital to his success as his four-octave vocal range"

https://www.vox.com/2018/11/16/18071460 ... loset-aids

So are they saying that they chose to concentrate on the character's music career rather than the sexuality? Is that bad though? The movie Ford v. Ferrari is based on a true story, and it concentrates on the car racing, over the characters' sex lives. So if that movie doesn't get any heat for doing that, then why should Bohemian Rhapsody?

How many movies about rock stars ignore their sex lives?

Being queer was a big part of who Freddy Mercury was and the concerns of navigating an industry hostile to that as well as his experience with AIDS in that era were all important parts of his story. Is it unreasonable that some people think a biopic about him should have covered that aspect in some detail?

You'll never please everyone and some figures had lives so interesting there's room for multiple biopics because one with adequate depth would be too long. That said, it's just criticism. People criticize movies for all sorts of things, is this not a legitimate criticism (even if additional reasonable factors caused things to be overlooked, and not just discomfort over discussion and depiction of male homosexuality)?

Oh well I just thought that the woke generation was being inconsistent, or perhaps double-standardish even, because they often complain about how gay characters are too much about their sexuality in movies, and then we get a movie where one is not, and then they want it to be all of a sudden. So it just felt inconstent from the woke audience, if that makes sense, but that is just how I interpreted it.

Like I said, I believe it appears that way because you've oversimplified things, because on the surface the way you explain it makes sense, but I know from experience that sometimes you've gotta dissect the arguments being presented before they become consistent. Without the details or with only the headline it's easy to miss the content of the arguments or not understand what's really being argued.

Among things, people within a community will have differing takes on issues that impact them, even if a lot of those takes end up being pretty similar; arguing against bad representation isn't the same as arguing against your allies who argue for some representation and arguing for an actual historic person to have to interact with issues that personally impacted them is motivated by a lack of representation of those issues being represented, it might be argued for as a pet cause because this seemed to be an appropriate vehicle and the opportunity was missed, not because the movie was offensive for this failure.

That's true, I guess I do have a habit of calling out certain groups, like the woke generation, because I feel they complain or criticize a lot of things, so I will call them out saying, hey you believed in this and now you see to have changed your mind, but it could just be different things for a case by case basis.

But I wish they would mention the exception in their beliefs if they have one though.

The problem is your reliance on "they"....who is "they"

People described as "woke" don't all wear red MAGA hats or have the same cult messiah like another notorious group who can be easily labelled.

We all fall into that trap at times though, especially with blocs that we might view as 'the opposition'.

Oh okay, why can other groups be easily labelled compared to them?

Tulsi Gabbard Accuses Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot of 'Anti-White Racism,' Calls for Resignation

Quote:
Former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard accused Chicago's Mayor Lori Lightfoot of "anti-white racism" and called for her resignation in a Friday Twitter post.

Lightfoot drew a backlash after she sent a letter to local Chicago media on Wednesday saying she'd have interviews only with journalists of color. She was marking her second-year anniversary as the city's first Black and openly lesbian mayor.

While much of the backlash came from right-wing critics, Gabbard—a Hawaii Democrat who unsuccessfully sought her party's 2020 presidential nomination—slammed the mayor's decision.

"Mayor Lightfoot's blatant anti-white racism is abhorrent. I call upon President Biden, Kamala Harris, and other leaders of our county [sic]—of all races—to join me in calling for Mayor Lightfoot's resignation. Our leaders must condemn all racism, including anti-white," Gabbard tweeted. The post quickly made Gabbard trend on the social media platform.

In her letter, Lightfoot, who is also a Democrat, contended that the media in Chicago is overwhelmingly led and managed by white people. The mayor said that, as a woman of color and a member of the LGBTQ community, she hoped news media outlets would become more reflective of the diverse city they cover.

In a late-April social media post, Gabbard addressed the heightened racial tensions playing out across the country.

"My dear friends and fellow Americans, please, please let us stop the RACIALIZATION of everyone and everything—i.e., racialism. We are all children of God and are therefore family in the truest sense, no matter what our race or ethnicity. This is aloha. This is what our country and world need," the former congresswoman wrote in an April 25 Facebook post.

Well she can't hate white people if she's married to one.

Tulsi Gabbard has both Samoan and European Ancestry. She is the first Hindu member of Congress. She converted to Hinduism as a teen.

Not the stereotype you pictured.

On what evidence does Ms. Gabbard alleged "racism against whites"?

Which is as logical as saying Donald Trump can't hate diet coke if her drinks the stuff. Point is nobody cares (same with whether Tulsi is married to a white man)
