Though I know that it's for the best that my boyfriend and I are not right for each other along with having lots of other things going for me, I am still heartbroken. We were together for 10 months and he was my first boyfriend and I became attached if you know what I mean. However, he didn't exactly respect me as a girlfriend and only did what he wanted.

I can understand you being sad; I would be sad, too.

Letting go is hard. It's also a necessary part of life. You will get over it and you will have other partners. You have learned something about what kind of relationship doesn't work so you can choose a better partner next time. Be kind and gentle with yourself.

I am not worried about meeting someone new and nor am I in a hurry because I am trying to stay busy as I have too many other things that are going for me. I am also finding ways to distract myself for a while. Last night, for example, I went and watched a few basketball games where I graduated college and helped. Besides, he and I lead very different lives as well but I have also learned from other men not to put my eggs into one basket unless there is a mutual agreement and we are compatible.

Hang in there, Summer_Twilight.
I'm glad you aren't taking it personally and you see it as an opportunity for personal growth.
Relationships are supposed to enhance our lives.
When they don't, it's not worth the emotional or psychological toll of pretending.

If you have bad days you might want to consider writing about it like a diary.
Sometimes that helps to purge the feelings and make your decision seem more objective.

I made a huge mistake in my teens and twenties in which I put all my hope into a couple of different guys who were not interested in me and nor were they right for me. Now I took those situations personally and spent a lot of time feeling angry and hurt.

It does hurt but I am more immune to it because he let me down several times while also looking where my life is now.

I just talked with a few people and I take it back, I am very hurt that he just used me for selfish reasons like that and after building my up like that and appearing to chase me. You know what though, it's all for the best because he has a tendency to be controlling.
