Something (or someone) whos sole or primary purpose is to be highly visually appealing, or, that which fulfils the role, intentionally or otherwise.

Something that is placed in a scene just to draw attention, but has no profound meaning. Like a pretty female model. Visual 'junk food' (like candy) so to speak.

In the 90s I'd sometimes see the phrase "eye candy" used in video game magazines, used to describe a game with bright, colorful, and visually pleasing graphics.

Many types of candy are known for being colorful. Like jelly beans, Skittles, M&Ms, Jubes, gummy bears. So anything that is colorful and pleasing to the eye is "eye candy".

People sure come up with some creative phrases, sometimes.
