I remember how much of a big deal it was when my father bought a 25-inch Zenith color TV in 1967. He also bought an Oldsmobile Delta 88 at about the same time.

In my 6-year-old mind, we were rising up in the world!

That must have been a groovy time for you. :flower:

I Australia it mean't having an outdoor toilet/bathroom in your backyard, I recall as a child braving the rain and elements to get relieve myself. My parents thought in the 1970s having an indoor toilet was unhygienic

Perhaps old fashion is a state of mind as well . Have me a computer, but I work with wood shaping tools from the 1800s in many repair projects around the house . That are inherited from a great grandfather.

I agree that it is a state of mind.

Was it a flush toilet, or an outhouse?

I went to a summer camp in the early 70s where we used outhouses.

Those were pretty old-fashioned things that your family did with the hootch, smoked bacon and corn-silk. You also had a respectable mother who was proud of her home keeping.

I think that young men and women should be joining the army and serving their countries instead of sitting in the park smoking pot all day.

Yes it was flush. In the old days most suburbs used a septic tank where wastewater was collected which fed into central point collected by a truck. Nowadays everything is pumped away from indoor plumbing.

Really old houses also had outdoor showers

We have an outhouse and outdoor shower at my lake house ^ .
We use them when we're outside boating, or rinsing off from a swim.

There's also indoor plumbing and indoor showers with a septic tank.

I still have memories of Greta Gabor washing her laundry in an metallic tub/basin of soapy water and then taking it to the clothes line.

That character is hilarious. That's what makes the show so funny. I love the things that she comes up with.
