I was too young to be very aware of The Kinks in their mid-1960s heyday, but this is a very decent number of theirs from the 80s. Ray Davies is looking a bit the worse for wear here, and a few years older than his actual age of 39. Just found out that he has the same birthday as me (and another prominent WP member).

Typical early mid-80s Top Of The Pops studio, by the way.

I loved this song when I first heard it, it seemed desperately sad and meaningful. Then I realised it was probably about a cat and that took the shine off for me. But I still like it.

^^^The bit with the "Matt's close up" framing reminded me of this song/video so I'm listening to this now:

Early Michel Gondry video. Single take, extraordinary coordination of real life/projected video/models.

I used to live down the road from them when they were starting out. Never met them though.

^ Have you ever seen them live? They are such a great live band. Some of their fans were over the top obsessive. I share a mutual friend, and have chickened out of meeting them a few times. It's more about the music for me.

I love their earlier stuff the most.

Having a BTS binge.

I did see them live once, but it was at Earls Court on the Absolution tour and I find those big venues difficult, I wasn't close enough to see much and I like to see the music. - I wish I'd gone to see them in their early days when I used to see their posters up around town.

I was at Glastonbury festival when they headlined in 2010 but they clashed with The Flaming Lips so that was a no brainer for me.

Yes, I only really know their first 3 albums, but I still listen to those. It all got a bit histrionic after that for me.

^ Yeah, I prefer the first three albums - Origin of Symmetry is my favourite. You should give Drones a try....some of the songs on there do have the old Muse vibe to them.

Absolution was a great tour. I know what you mean about big venues (saw them at Wembley Stadium gig, and I was seated miles away). The only time I enjoyed a Muse gig away from the barrier was at the Royal Albert Hall.
