The next big speed dating opportunity for me is just one day away. I’m finally getting a chance. Does anyone have any conversation tips for me to help sharpen my skills?

Ask the other people to talk about themselves and then listen to what they have to say.

That depends on one's family. I would avoid statements like:

"My family is nuts."

"I hate my parents."

"I can't stand being around my brother. He's such a loser."

"Have you ever heard of the Oedipus Complex?"

Listen to the other person and share some interesting things about yourself.

Tell funny stories about events of your childhood.

Of course, listen when she says something.

How about, "I am an orphan, abandoned at birth, and never adopted"?

Maybe talking about family is not such a good idea, after all.

There might not be much of an opportunity for that considering this is speed dating.

Also, it could make it seem like one hasn't done anything interesting since childhood.

He’s only 21 years old.

High school stories would be quite recent.

This is probably one of the best questions you can ask someone on a date.

What are your hobbies and interests?

Pay attention to how they respond as this can determine how much in common you two have.

The key is to look for some common interests with the other person, as it will be easier to connect with others you share activities and interests with.

On the other hand, if you’re struggling to find anything in common with this person, they’re probably not the right one for you.

How attractive/unattractive your date perceives you to be will be a big factor on whether or not your date likes you. Without even opening your mouth, a woman may have already decided that she does/doesn’t want to see you again just based on looks alone. Sounds shallow? Well dating can be pretty shallow.

There will be a certain portion of women who will automatically write you off before you even open your mouth, simply because either they don’t find you attractive or you’re not their type. This certainly applies if you’re either conventionally unattractive, or have a trait (such as being fat or super short) that’s traditionally unattractive.

Don’t take it personal, you’re not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. The key is to find women who either find your physical type attractive, or find women who care more about inner qualities.

Most 20 somethings would like to give the impression that they've grown up and moved on since high school. High school stories should really be avoided during speed dating.

I meant more as funny events, for entertainment.

I couldn’t tell high school stories because nothing good happened in high school.

Once again, this is speed dating. It's not going to give a great impression if he wastes the little time he has telling stories that he found amusing from high school. Usually, such stories aren't going to be funny or even interesting to new acquaintances.

The most important thing….is that you appear friendly and receptive. Probably a button-down shirt with chinos would be good to wear. Make sure your hair is washed.
