The discussion in Hebrew was about Asperger Syndrome awareness in the Arab world, and about the possibility of establishing a Middle Eastern Autistic Community.

Here is the English brochure of our organization, ACI - The Autistic Community of Israel -
http://www.acisrael.org/alonE.pdf

Do you have a similar organization in Egypt?
If so, perhaps we could organize a Middle Eastern version of Autreat/Autscape?

Good luck with the forthcoming elections. It would be great to see Egypt becoming a modern, liberal democracy.

Hebrew is funky looking. When I first saw that article of mine that you translated I got out the English one and kept trying to compare and learn Hebrew. Yeah, that didn't work out so hot.

Welcome to WP dinali! Hope you like it here. :)

I must admit, we were going to go to Egypt (to Sharm el-Sheikh) but eventually decided against it in the end.

KenG- hearing things ranging from "those poor parents, it must be so sad to have an autistic child" to "autistic people are 'retarded' and need to be institutionalized all the time", i'd say the arab world has poor awareness of autism in general, never mind asperger's. :(

having an organization similar to ACI here in egypt would be a dream come true! i'm willing to try and start one but i wouldn't know what to do and where to start to be honest.
the only organization i could find turned me off completely when i got to the line "cure for autism". here, judge for yourself:
http://egyptautism.com/what/index.htm

and thanks, i'm equally excited and terrified about the coming elections- this is the first time i feel like my vote actually matters!! i hope i see egypt become a true democracy.

Tequila- thanks :)
normally, i would urge you to come see sharm because it's really a wonderful experience, but to be honest the country is still suffering from security issues. maybe you should reconsider once things are more stable, you guys don't wanna miss it :)

We are hearing similar things in Israel as well. We work hard to counter those stigmas.

Perhaps start by contacting other Egyptians here on WP?
There are at least 2 other Egyptians here on WP. If you need help finding them, let me know and I will help you.

The last line on that page says "The section above was adapted from the Autism Society of America brochure".
I guess the Autism Society of America is not too good either.

Assuming you are not voting for Ḥizb al-ḥurriya wa al-’adala, there is nothing to be terrified of.

OK, then you are not voting for Ḥizb al-ḥurriya wa al-’adala :)
(Such a nice name for a not so nice party...)

Last time I visited Sharm was in the 1970s, before it was handed back to Egypt. (I did visit Dahab a couple of times in the 1990s, but didn't go to Sharm).
We should have our Middle Eastern Autistic Conference in Sharm!
(Israelis only need valid passports to enter East Sinai. Entering mainland Egypt requires us to get Egyptian visas).
