Long marriages are a good and rare thing these days and everyone should aspire to such commitment. But I feel like there's a trap.

The groom was 17 at the time and his bride was 13.

Ah there we go. Shutting up.

Standard age back then in rural communities.

That’s right.

It was normal then. Don’t read too much into the ages.

I'm having a little difficulty with the article saying "married for 82 years" and "nearly eight decades".

Anyways there are may couples who stay wed until one of them dies. I'm sure they'd all probably last 80 years if they all got married as teenagers and lived nearly a century. But this of course is a rarity.

If I stayed married to my wife for 82 years, I'd have to live to be 117 years old. I seriously doubt I'm going to live nearly that long. Regardless, I plan to stick to wedded bliss to the day I croak.

I'd say the marriage of a cousin of mine would definitely last 80+ years if they lived that long. They're getting close to 50 years and are still completely devoted to each other.
