An autistic guy whom I know at a day program I work always leave his group to talk to one of our staff members who is a young woman he likes. How do I get him to stop?

The young woman probably would have to get him to “stop.”

In what sense does he "like" her? Is he planning to ask her for a date?

Has the woman told you how she feels about the situation? Have you asked her about it?

It is probably against the day program's rules for clients and staff to date each other. I would suggest that you find out the details of the program's policies on this matter before deciding what else you should do.

Why do you want him to stop?

I don't want him to get in trouble.

Have you tried telling him that he might get in trouble?

How old is he? How old is the woman he likes to hang out with? Also, is he intellectually disabled as well as autistic, or is he just autistic?

I've noticed that your posts here tend to be very terse. If you want helpful answers, it would help it you could provide more details.

He is in his mid 20s. She is in her early 20s. He's autistic and intellectually disabled.

I see you’re from the Bronx. I lived in the Bronx from a very young age.

Is the woman intellectually disabled, too?

How would the guy get in trouble? Is she giving indications that she doesn’t want to talk to the guy?

Ironically, it’s possible, though not likely, that SHE could get in trouble more than HE can get in trouble.

Is the guy “forward” with her? Why would he get in trouble just for hanging out with her? Does she have a boyfriend who visits?

I'm going to limit his time to talk to her.

I don’t know the whole situation—so I can’t comment.

Is he aggressive with her?

Tell me why you want to restrict him. I’m sure there’s a good reason.

It might be that it would be good to restrict him.

I’m thinking maybe you think she’ll take advantage of him.

Well, more like not letting her do her job.

She’s a worker, then?

Now, this makes more sense.

I thought she was another client.
