Does anyone here watch "The Nostalgia Critic" on YouTube? The show started out as basically stand-up insult comedy for bad movies and that was what I enjoyed about it. Now, most of the reviews are mixed-to-positive. Some of the new episodes are interesting and there's still some comedy, but it feels much more like a traditional movie review show. Bad movies are usually funnier. Even when he does a bad movie now, he openly talks about enjoying how bad it is, while that was just understood in the older, "angrier" reviews.

This isn't the first time the show has shifted focus. Doug Walker ended the show at one point and replaced it with the sitcom/sketch comedy show "Demo Reel," which flopped. When he brought back "The Nostalgia Critic," there was much more focus on long sketches and plotlines instead of the fast verbal humor I liked. Eventually, he began doing episodes that were just long sketches, with no clips from the movie at all. Now, doing more positive reviews seems to be his new direction.

The original idea of the show was to view media from the past "without the nostalgia goggles," to find humor in how bad, strange and confusing it often was. Watching some of the older episode of "Nostalgia Critic" recently, I have to admit that I have nostalgia goggles for "The Nostalgia Critic!" :D Some of the shock value, both for how bad the movies are and for his reactions, has worn off. But I would still prefer a show that followed the original premise.

I love Nostalgia Critic. I haven't seen many of his newer reviews, but I'm glad I have access to his older reviews on YouTube.

I like all (negative) movie reviews but I can only watch them if I've seen the movie before.

I hate when a movie review is too short, like 5 minutes long. What's the point in that? I like it when they go through the whole movie and criticise it, even if it's a good movie. Like the OP, I find movie reviews funnier when it focuses on the negative. It also sometimes helps me understand the little details in a movie better.

I do like the Nostalgia Critic. I don't like his Hocus Pocus movie review though, as it's all people acting out the movie in a sarcastic way. I wish he just went through the movie talking and ranting about it like the other videos he's done.
I wish he (or all my favourite YouTube movie critics) would do a lengthy review on more of my favourite movies. I love watching them.

I lost all respect for the Nostalgia Critic when that April 2018 controversy emerged. The list of Channel Awesome's grievances was nothing short of appalling. I'm surprised that he still has a following despite the fallout of that incident.

I found such a turn of events sad because I used to like the NC. He taught me that we, as viewers, DESERVE BETTER and should never settle for less. I grew from watching his show, which I learned not to like everything I watch/read/subject myself to, and that I should be more critical and cynical of what I enjoy. How ironic that this lesson from the NC would be a factor that would turn me off from him. I now find his content to be equivalent to the very movies and shows that he reviews.

I can't enjoy his work like I once did, and I don't find him funny anymore. :(
