Why haven't I met the right people ?

I seem to feel at times like I've wasted life because I haven't met the right people, I seem to think I saw others around me meeting new people at school, college etc, then staying friends and hanging out on occasions after leaving school, college etc and I left with few friends who were not always the hanging-out type. People say ''oh its because you are not putting yourself out there often and that people are not going to come to the front door to ask to be your friend.''

I feel like I've wasted life because I wasn't doing the things I saw other people I recognised from school doing in photos such as going out for a drink on occasions, going out somewhere nice for the day to a concert, a beach, a holiday abroad somewhere etc.
