Distancing? They put her on the Homeland Security Committee.

That's why I added the word "even" when I mentioned republicans because I am aware the pro-Trump camp in the GOP have been collaborating with her for a while now and giving her oxygen to make "deplorable" comments.

The article you posted is from 2020 when she was still a candidate. That was then, this is now.
Pro Trump camp? It’s not a camp, it is the defining feature of the Republican party. Some maybe distancing themselves from Trump personally but not the ideas. With a few exceptions the Republicans have been mum about her remarks.

Could it be exploitation of some type?

1. You just blanket called all GOPers "deplorable." That's not even what Hillary Clinton said. She said half of Donald Trump supporters. So take the % of support that Trump still has and half it. That's it. Its like 17% of the country.

There are deplorable people in every society and in every political persuasion. If we start trying to build countries for each type we end up with no country.

2. Regarding GOPers in general, we just disagree at best. We often think that GOPers are misinformed and think they are top 1% when they aren't even top 20%. It never fails - every GOP neighbor I talk to is convinced they pay 40%+ of their income in taxes. Doesn't mean I want to have a separate country I just want better education funding so we can all at least agree on facts.

3. Finally, I love the United States and want it to be stronger, not weaker. Breaking it up would not get to that goal.

The rhetoric has consistently been more violent from the right wing for as long as I could remember. Right wing media straight up demonizes Democrats. There is no equivalent on the Left to right wing churches calling Democrats agents of Satan. Or during the Iraq War, if you opposed it you hated America. Everything with right wingers is about demonizing Democrats.

Blah blah blah

A load of mouth crap like always from people who just don't like to be told the truth about their own behavior. Bottom line is our country is not functioning anymore and Americans are not happy. Why exactly do you people think that is and how do you think it will all eventually end?

I think we all know the answer to that even if most of you wont to openly admit it.

You make assumptions about people's motives, people dispute your claims about their motives and then you get angry about it.

Who do you think will hold power in some sort of independent red state? The same sorts of people who openly discuss killing people like you. I don't like the idea of leaving people at the mercy of people with ill-intentions simply because it might be politically expedient (assuming secession isn't a total clusterf**k, which it will be).

I looked up "world happiness report" and here it is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Happiness_Report

Seems to me Americans are generally OK.

Americans have never lived in a real democracy so its understandable that people would feel frustrated.

But Americans have also been brainwashed to believe that the Electoral college and two senators per state is a good idea.

Despite all that, I think we are doing OK. You are just being "US centric." Other countries have far more serious problems.

If you don't think its functioning now, when do you think America was functioning? I can make an argument that 1990s were peak but almost the entire history of the country was "less functioning" for minorities and not to mention the Natives. Compared to our history, we are doing great.

I think you've been reading too much doom and gloom right wing propaganda. They want you to think its collapsing so that people will be more prone to their stupid solutions, which inevitably involve giving more money to rich people.

Its what the right wing does worldwide - they pop the balloon and then tell Joe Six pack the balloon has no air because of immigrants/liberals/whatever so let them take control.

Um, because talking of a divorce is anti-constitutional? Because despite our differences we are stronger together, diversity of opinion, diversity of strengths, and all that? Because holding together while not always agreeing or being the same is a big part of what the whole American experiment is about?

Also, pragmatically, neighboring countries left unchecked on their most extremist ideas by diverse factions in their own nation aren't actually going to be good neighbors, are they?

Maybe we all need to pull our heads out of our %%!@# and figure out how to get along again, isn't that the only right answer? Splitting the nation apart WILL. NOT. SOLVE. ANYTHING.

Remember that making you fear what is and believe it is not salvageable aids want-to-be autocrats. The rise of autocracy is an imminent threat world wide and for our country. Don't fall for it. We all have to be willing to swallow our frustration and work it out with people we hate or Democracy dies. We've gone through periods like this (and worse) before and survived. Believe in the ability of the ship to right itself instead of falling into the autocrat's propaganda.

I know us liberals were all joking in 2017 about taking a swath of west coast land and adding it to Canada as way out of the destruction we feared was coming from Trump. But it was a joke, a way of saying "right now we like Trudeau a whole lot better than our own president." It was a Facebook meme, not a suggestion from a standing member of congress who took an oath to defend the constitution. MTG is speaking in either defiance or ignorance of the oath she took.

Marjorie Taylor Greene refuses to back down from 'national divorce' proposal

Quote:
In the face of some harsh blowback, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the firebrand Georgia Republican, has tripled down on her proposal for a "national divorce"-- splitting the country according to political ideology into "red" Republican states and "blue" Democratic states.

After the Civil War, the Supreme Court ruled it is unconstitutional for a state to secede, which would make it impossible for her plan to be implemented.

But Greene, who has been touting the idea since 2021 when she wanted to halt "brainwashed" Californians from moving to states like Florida, is gaining new attention for the concept, now that she has become a close ally of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and a member of the House Homeland Security Committee.

She's been invited to explain how she claims it would work on Fox News' "Hannity" program as well as on other conservative outlets.

"The last thing I ever want to see in America is a civil war," she told Sean Hannity. "No one wants that -- at least everyone I know would never want that -- but it's going that direction, and we have to do something about it."

On conservative commentator Charlie Kirk's show on Tuesday, Greene laid out another part of her proposal: allowing red states to block Democrats from voting if they came from a blue state.

"Red states can choose in how they allow people to vote in their states," Greene said. "What I think would be something that some red states could propose is: well, okay, if Democrat voters choose to flee these blue states where they cannot tolerate the living conditions, they don't want their children taught these horrible things, and they really change their mind on the types of policies that they support, well once they move to a red state, guess what, maybe you don't get to vote for five years."

Her proposition was promptly dismissed by current and former GOP lawmakers, including Utah GOP Sen. Mitt Romney, who told the Salt Lake Tribune on Tuesday, "I think Abraham Lincoln dealt with that kind of insanity …"We're not going to divide the country. It's united we stand and divided we fall."

Another former Republican member of Congress, moderate Adam Kinzinger, who, like Cheney, was a member of the Jan. 6 committee and left Congress just over a month ago, asked his party:

"Every Republican elected official needs to be asked and must give an answer: do you support a "national divorce" aka a civil war? One word answer, no misdirect, not 'this is what the media always does.'

"Do you agree with the leader of the party, MTG?"

McCarthy has not commented publicly on Greene's proposal.

But the Georgia Republican has remained steadfast, lashing back at some of her most vocal critics.

"People agree with me and not the RINO governor of Utah," MTG tweeted alongside a news story outlining remarks from Utah's GOP Gov. Spencer Cox calling Greene's rhetoric "evil."

She also argued her "national divorce" idea was not equivalent to a "civil war."

"People saying national divorce is a bad idea because the left will never stop trying to control us literally make the case for national divorce," she said in a tweet on Wednesday.

"We don't want a civil war. We're not surrendering. We're tired of complaining with no change and want to protect our way of life," she said.

In recent years, there have been several secession efforts at the state level, including reorganizing state lines to accommodate outlier counties.

The party of Lincoln has come full circle, I suppose.

Ok so I don't know what the hell I was really thinking at the time I posted what I did... maybe I was experiencing another psychotic episode? I'm not sure...

But now that I'm thinking clearly (for now) I see that MTG really is a dangerous lunatic. And the idea of her ever becoming house speaker terrifies me.

If she's not the prime example of America's descent into kakistocracy I don't know what is. :|

I was just a little butthurt because like, seriously, I don't hate the sorts of people who stereotypically watch (or work in) NASCAR, I just probably disagree with them on some things.
