But yeah, simply asking them to stop asking should be sufficient. If they persist, ask again for them to stop and then ask them to please respect your wishes. That's usually enough for most people. Lying might work, or it might fail miserably. I'm not sure if they're the types who would then want to meet the partner you don't have. That could be problematic.
