So, with the context, my first response is “wow, that guy’s an as*hole.”

Now the question becomes - do you want to give your money to an as*hole? How talented does the as*hole have to be for you to be willing to support him in order to enjoy his art? And “cancel culture” is basically a bunch of people deciding “in light of your recent behavior, we don’t think that your work has enough value to us for us to continue supporting you financially.”

Cancel culture is literally capitalism in action.

Cancel culture has its place, but it can also be a form of political abuse in other instances.
It isn't black&white.
Here, he clearly skewed himself, IMO. 8)

I don't agree with what he said I don't hold the same opinion but I still don't see how what he said is a racist statement.
Can someone explain cuz it just does not compute

He just wrote off an entire demographic as a hate group.

How can one interpret it as anything but racist? I'm genuinely curious.

A lot of people have been cancelled for saying things perceived as racist. With exception of calling for physically attacking or killing people based on their race you do not get more racist then that. Racism is defined as thinking another race is inferior and harming them based on there race. Thinking they are so dangerous that you need to avoid them is thinking they are inferior. And if white people avoid them, to put it mildly it would harm them.

Honestly, I never thought Dilbert was particularly funny, anyhow.

I flinched at the "book burning" image. 8O
Perhaps, these days, "books" should be shredded or deleted. 8)

That's how Freedom of Speech works...you are free to say whatever you like, and you are equally free to face the consequences of it.

Never read the comic.
With all the publicity, perhaps I should now?

Hopefully, the consequences are justified.
I believe they are in this instance.

Dilbert USED to be funny (I'm talking about the mid-90's stuff) in recent years it seems to be more about making fun of minorities, and people who have to actually work for a living.

A lot of old Dilbert comics are funny, but I haven't followed in in ages.

I suppose I can keep them next to my Anal c**t and Burzum albums.

Although I was never a fan of Dilbert, I appreciated Scott Adam's wit and sarcasm.

I think in all fairness he misread the context behind "I'm proud to be white". It illustrates that even the most loved intellectuals are not immune to brainwashing.

I will explain it.

1. The poll he quoted was a loaded question. "Its ok to be white" is a common 4chan like thing said. So, he's quoting a poll that if you know what the phrase really means, it's already asking black people if they are ok with a statement that is repeated by 4chan like users. Who is saying its not ok to be white? Is anyone actually saying that in mainstream media?

2. He intentionally lumped "not sure" into the same category as "no." The ratio of "yes" to "no" was about 2 to 1. He could have said "Two times as many blacks are ok with 'Its ok to be white.'" Instead, he dilbertly (hah) mangled it to come out as racist as possible - he intentionally wanted to paint black people as anti white.

If you are familiar with polls, about 20-30% ALWAYS say "not sure." You strike those off. You don't lump those 100% into one category or another. To do otherwise is to press your finger down on the scale.

He instead opted to read it a different way, showing how racist he truly is.
